Specifications

Scope


Midwest Cast Stone
shall be responsible for all labor, materials, equipment, and services necessary for and incidental to providing cast stone covered under this specification.
The setting contractor shall unload, receipt for, store and set all cast stone covered under this specification and furnish and install all anchors for same.
Drawings
Individual part drawings and setting plans where required shall be submitted to the general contractor for approval.  The general contractor will verify all dimensions and coordinate the drawings with field conditions.  The architect or general contractor prior to the manufacture of any stone shall approve all drawings.

Materials

Cement:  Portland Type I or Type III, white or grey meeting ASTM C150.
Fine aggregate:  graded and washed natural sands, or manufactured granite, quartz or limestone sands meeting ASTM C33 except that gradation may vary to achieve desired finish and texture.
Course aggregate:  Graded and washed natural gravels, or crushed graded stone such as granite, quartz, or limestone meeting ASTM C33, except that gradation may vary to achieve desired finish and texture.
Water:  Shall be potable tap water free from impurities.
Admixtures:  ASTM C494
Properties
Compressive strength shall not be less than 5500 PSI at 28 days
Water absorption:  Shall not exeed 6% by weight.
Reinforcement
Cast stone shall be reinforced when necessary with new steel reinforcing bars meeting ASTM A615, Grade 40 or grade 60.

Color & Finish


Midwest Cast Stone
shall submit to the architect, for selection and approval, samples of the cast stone specified which would be typical of the general range of color and finish for the job.
The architect shall approve samples before the manufacturer shall be required to proceed with the work.
Tolerances
Stone dimensions shall not vary in excess of +/- 1/8” or L/360, whichever is greater.
Delivery and Storage
All cast stone shall be received and unloaded at the project site by the setting contractor with the necessary care and handling to avoid damage and soiling.
All material shall be stored clear of the ground on non-staining planking or pallets in such a manor to be protected from damage while in storage.
